America’s Next Top Trans Model

This season of America’s Top Model takes a step back, by including the viewer favorites from past seasons, and a huge step forward, by bringing back their first trans contestant, Isis King.

Isis completed her gender reassignment surgery just about two years ago. Her journey has been  documented via a MSNBC special titled Born in the Wrong Body, The Tyra Banks Show, as well as on America’s Next Top Model in its 11th cycle.

I’m banking on Isis as America’s Next Top Model. Only 13 more contestants to go!

In 2007, King appeared in an MSNBC special titled Born in the Wrong Body, which documented the lives of transgender teens from across the United States.[5] King began hormone replacement therapy in the summer of 2007, as part of her transitioning process.

King is originally from Prince Georges County, Maryland, and currently resides in New York City. King was designated male at birth but has stated that “mentally [and] everything else” she was “born female.”[3] She has stated that people might refer to her as “transgender” or “transsexual“, but she prefers the phrase “born in the wrong body”.[3]

While in high school, King came out as “gay“. However, she felt that it was still not the accurate label for her orientation.[4]

In 2007, King appeared in an MSNBC special titled Born in the Wrong Body, which documented the lives of transgender teens from across the United States.[5] King began hormone replacement therapy in the summer of 2007, as part of her transitioning process.[6] She hoped to have sex reassignment surgery as soon as possible.[7]
